MIG Welding Parameters Test: Part 1 - Stickout | MIG Monday

As welders, we all know what stickout IS and that it is important to the success of our welds. What a lot of people don't realize is why (or how) it effects those welds. Stickout length is quietly one of the most important aspects to think about when MIG welding. It can effect everything from voltage to weld bead characteristics and most of all amperage / heat input. Most people learn that you should have a stickout around 1/4" - 3/8" and they are just fine keeping it in that range. On the other hand, if you know the cause and effect incorrect welding procedure, you will be a better welder for it and will be better equipped to diagnose bad welds.

In this episode, we are using a Bug-O Systems, Go-Fer IV in order to keep a perfect stickout length and travel speed to show everyone what happens when this important parameter is altared.
