DONT BUY A NEW Solar Light 1-minute #fix #diy #offgridliving #solarlight #homesteadlife #offgridlife

#homesteading requires self-sufficiency at as close to $0 as possible. I've learned to fix solar lights and up-cycle/DIY many things around the property (including creating a vertical garden out of a rusted gazebo frame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b78BHE1Wxw ).
In today's video, you'll learn a super-quick way to fix a broken solar light garden stake. We use these to light paths, especially in our rented-out cabin-scape, so that folks can easily get to the outhouse and forest trail in the evening. (I don't yet have a video of the campsite and first cabin, but I do have one of the new 7-sleeper loft cabin: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Rj5M4D0ZNU0 and Airbnb link: https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/46924320 )

5 steps:
1. Check battery
Today we’ll be fixing a solar head of a garden stake. I’ve taken the battery out and replaced it (rechargeable battery). The battery was about 5 years old. They definitely do age and refuse to charge any more after a certain amount of time, so we’ll start with a fresh battery.
2. Open it
Then I’m going to open it up. You can see there are 3 screws. My experience is it’s full of insects, and that can definitely mess with connection. Rust can also mess with connection, if there’s humidity in the summer air, which there is here.
3. Clear debris
Okay, so I’ve got it open. You can see that there is definitely a lot of dirt and dust in there. I took out a bunch of bugs. Um, and I can see the problem. Now, the dust, etc., may have been contributing to it, but I see that this wire is no longer connected.
4. Re-attach any loose wires
So, I don’t have a soldering tool. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford one some time soon, so what I’m going to do is tape that down, and hopefully the light will work.
Okay, I’ve got the back back on. Tape is in. So we’ll just uh ah yay! Woohoo! Resurrected solar lamp. That’s awesome. Don’t have to buy a new one. So there you go! You can do this at home.
