At a time when the publishing industry and the world itself feel uncertain and overrun by the arrival of AI, it’s a joy to read a novel that reminds us about the power of the handwritten word. Yes! This is an epistolary novel and one you don’t want to miss. So join me as we analyze how Sybil Van Antwerp uses letters to connect with others and heal herself. As much as the novel is in love with letter writing, it shows us how difficult it can be for letters and email to sustain already difficult relationships with children and grandchildren when face to face would really help.
