The 3rd Annual Portlandia Mermaid Parade happened on Saturday July 28th, 2018. It is a FREE family friendly, gender neutral, and body positive event celebrating water mythology and all things mermaid. Each year the mermaids that live in the rivers and the nearby ocean swim to Portland to mingle with the land folk in Waterfront Park. There are ceremonies, singing and dancing by the mermaids and friends and it has become a very popular annual event. Nearby pirates flock to the event to meet the mermaids and to help them along the parade route which leads to Poet's Beach where the mermaids swim, take selfies/photos, hug, say goodbye and then venture back into the water to return to their home until next year.
