France’s Chief of the Defense Staff, General Fabien Mandon, warned that the possibility of an "open war" with Russia remains his "primary concern" regarding military preparedness. Speaking before the French National Assembly, Mandon described a persistent and large-scale threat that requires urgent national awareness and defense investment. 

General Mandon stated that the French armed forces must be ready for a significant "shock" or "confrontation" within the next three to four years. The general expressed concern over the "unpredictability" of the United States as an ally. Mandon stated France must be ready to "lose its children"
