When Colleen and Gary Worthington decided to open a bakery - after retiring! - they were determined to learn everything they could about baking artisan bread. They read, went to school, studied, practiced, and refined their signature European hearth breads. It wasn’t until they created the perfect loaves that they launched Kneaders, their first bakery. Colleen managed the store and served customers from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Gary did all the baking from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. while the bakery was closed. The bakery was an instant hit and they soon expanded their menu to include sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries. With support from their children, grandchildren, talented staff, and community, the business grew and Colleen and Gary opened more bakeries.

In Kneaders, Colleen celebrates the many people who’ve shared in the success of the business, offering moving and inspiring memories along with favorite recipes. In addition to over a dozen recipes for bread, including Rosemary Focaccia Bread, Sesame Semolina, Chocolate Hearth, and Utah Mountain Style Cornbread, there are recipes for mouthwatering cakes, cookies, pies, and puddings, sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast.

Enticing, colorful photographs enliven each recipe and short tips offer ways to modify a dish or simplify preparation. Featuring over 180 recipes including standouts like Overnight Chunky Cinnamon French Toast, Lemon Ricotta “Soufflé” Pancakes, Apricot Almond Wreath, Chocolate Drizzle Cake, Pumpkin Trifle, Southwest Barbecue Chicken Salad, Tuscan Bistro Sandwich, Butternut Squash Bisque, Roasted Root Vegetable Salad, and Salted Caramel Nut Bars. Rounding out the offerings are recipes for dips, drinks, and stuffing.
