Finite Verb- इसे हिन्दी में सीमित क्रिया कहते हैं। यह वह क्रिया है, जो वाक्य के subject तथा Tense के अनुसार अपना रूप बदल लेती है। या इस प्रकार कहें कि यह वह क्रिया है, जिस पर वाक्य के Subject और Tense का प्रभाव पड़ता है और तदनुरूप इसका रूप सीमित हो जाता है। जैसे- (i) I read a book. - मैं एक पुस्तक पढ़ता हूँ।
(ii) She writes a letter. वह एक पत्र लिखती है।
(iii) They all are students. - वे सभी छात्र हैं।
(iv) He is an advocate. - वह एक वकील है।
(v) They wanted to win the match. - वे मैच को जीतना चाहते थे।
इन वाक्यों में Read, writes, are, is wanted - finite verbs हैं और इनका प्रयोग कर्त्ता और काल के अनुसार हुआ है। एक दूसरे वाक्य के माध्यम से इसे समझें। जैसे (i) I play- मैं खेलता हँू।
(i) He plays- वह खेलता है।
(ii) I played - मैंने खेला।
(iii) He played - वह खेला। इन चारों वाक्यों में एक ही क्रिया - 'Play' का प्रयोग हुआ है, किन्तु Subject और Tense के अनुसार इसका रूप बदलता गया है और उन्हीं सन्दर्भों में इसका रूप सीमित होता गया है।
