My First Drone Job Paid me $200 for 5 Minutes of "Work"

I've never had a paying drone job (except YouTube of course) but today, I got paid $200 for 5 minutes of drone work. That's $40 per minute! That's 67 cents per second! That's $2400 per hour! Too bad it's a one time drone job... Or is it?

Guys, I went out today to complete my first official paying drone job since earning my FAA required Part 107 certification almost 2 years ago. I mean, I never intended on working with the drones in our fleet to do anything more than make YouTube videos but some opportunities you just can't pass up... And this drone job was one of those opportunities...

A buddy of mine owns a campground near the town we live and he asked if I could do a couple flights over the campground to capture some ariel footage from which he could take a few photographs for his website. I told him I would absolutely help him out and I didn't expect the discussion of payment even to come up. Well, it did and it wasn't by me. At first I refused his offer because he's a good friend and we go back decades but he was insistent and wouldn't take no for an answer. So I caved and told him if he wanted to pay us for the drone job, I would accept, but supper was on me. Long story short, the discussion landed at $200 for the job. I told him it was an easy drone job and that was way too much but again he insisted so ultimately I accepted. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I got paid $200 for 5 minutes of "work" on my first drone job.

Anyway, with that said, the only way I was able to help him out with this amazing opportunity was because I had obtained my Part 107 certification and was a certified drone pilot. Not that I'm any good, as a matter of fact, I'm a horrible drone pilot but that's another story altogether. Anyway, if I hadn't had my certification active, I would have had to tell him nope and walk away.

If you're interested in learning more about obtaining your Part 107 certification and you're nervous about taking the most difficult test you'll ever have to take (maybe a little exaggeration here) you'll want to click on the link below for a course offered by an online company called UAV Coach. They have a course called Drone Pilot Ground School that is designed to help you prepare for the test and pass it on your first try (like I did)... Yea, and what's better is, they're having a Presidents Day sale marking the cost of the course down from $299 to $159. It gives you lifetime access to the course and it's a guaranteed way to pass the exam. If you don't pass the exam after completing their course, they'll reimburse you all the money you've spent (course and test) and add another $175. Tell me that's not a great deal. For more information on the course, click the link below.

As always, we want to thank everyone for watching and for taking the time to comment. If you used one of the online courses to obtain your Part 107 certification, please comment below so others can read what you thought of the material and how easy the test ultimately was after studying with the course... We hope you all have a great week and God bless!!!
