Welcome to Termez, Uzbekistan! This 2,500-year-old city along Uzbekistan’s southern border with Afghanistan is full of hidden gems and fascinating historical sites, yet it remains largely unexplored by tourists. It’s a wild frontier town that boasts a rich history, including its conquest by Alexander the Great and its role as a center for Buddhism during the Kushan Empire.

In this documentary, we’re exploring this city, the southernmost city in Uzbekistan. From the the Fayaz-Tepe Buddhist Monastery to the Sultan Saodat Complex to the crumbling ruins of Kara-Tepe Monastery, Termez’s historical sites are a dream to explore.
We’re also heading outside the city to the town of Jarkurgan to visit a local cultural center, see the oldest minaret in all of Central Asia, and eat some of the best lamb in the entire country! We’re also exploring other Uzbek favorites like somsas and norin, and even trying a breakfast inspired by Uzbekistan’s time as part of the Soviet Union.
