My First Polar Bear Plunge (Inspired by Wim Hof Method)

I'd been practicing the Wim Hof Method for a year (daily combination of intense breathing exercises + cold therapy) when I decided to take my first Polar Bear Plunge in the freezing Atlantic Ocean in the dead of winter.
It. Was. Exhilarating.
Having trained my body to not just tolerate, but look forward to cold showers, I barely felt the cold on my skin when I did this. Well, I guess you could say I felt it, but in the best way possible—like I was absorbing its healing powers. When I stepped out of the water and approached my family—all bundled in coats, hats, and gloves—I felt more awake and energized than I'd felt from the eight hours of sleep I'd gotten the night before. Because as the great Wim Hof says, "The cold is your warm friend!"
