Sparing the Scalpel: A Surgeon’s Perspective on the Future of Orthopedics | Brian Cole | TEDxRushU
In this TEDx talk, sports medicine expert and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Cole "takes off the scrubs" to convey how contemporary thinking and treatments can "spare the scalpel" for injured and sidelined patients. In a provocative, lighthearted talk, Cole who is the head team physician for the Chicago Bulls, shares his philosophy, saying, "a surgeon's practice is 90% thinking and 10% doing when it comes to providing the best solutions to what patients really need.” Dr. Cole highlights the importance of reasonable expectations, the appropriate use of technology, and the future of medicine, including stem cells and regenerative therapies.
