20 Tech "Revolutions" That Were Just Old Ideas REBRANDED (We Fell For It)
20 Tech "Revolutions" That Were Just Old Ideas REBRANDED (We Fell For It)
Apple launched the Vision Pro in 2023 for $3,499 and called it the future of computing. Nintendo launched the Virtual Boy in 1995 for $179 and called it the same thing. One of them had a bigger marketing budget.
This video exposes 20 "revolutionary" technologies that weren't new - they were repackaged. The smartwatch existed in 1984. Streaming existed in 1999. The tablet was Microsoft's idea in 2001. The e-reader launched in 1998. The smartphone shipped in 1994. None of these were invented by the companies that got credit for inventing them.
From the IBM Simon (the first smartphone, 30 years before the iPhone) to Thomas Parker's electric car in the 1880s, from SixDegrees.com (social networking in 1997) to ELIZA (AI chatbot in 1966) - the pattern is identical every time: the idea existed, got ignored, then got relaunched with better marketing and a bigger company behind it. We paid a premium, called it a revolution, and forgot everyone who got there first.
The idea is almost never the revolution. The execution is. The distribution is. The timing is. Twenty "revolutions." Twenty renamings. The ideas didn't change. The press releases did.
