Woodturning an Afrormosia Platter

This is a difficult wood. Dense and dusty, it made my traditional bowl gouge run and hide. I had to break out the carbide tipped tool, something I rarely do.

Afrormosia is a rare wood that I'd never heard of until I visited a local Indiana wood vendor and saw it sitting on a shelf. Just the end grain was visible, and I knew I had to turn it.

It was kiln dried and measured 9% moisture content, which is pretty stable for central Indiana. But by the crazy amount of dust it threw around my shop, you'd think it was at 1%... More dusty than padauk...and padauk is super dusty!

Spelled Afrormosia or Afromosia, and sometimes called African Teak, although it isn't teak at all, this wood is highly durable, and incredibly beautiful!

Thank you for watching, and I hope if you haven't subscribed that you'll do so! It's absolutely free and it helps me out.

I used and show Ack's products in this video because I like their products very much. I'm not sponsored.
