Iran Just Built A Toll Booth On The World's Most Critical Waterway — And Ships Are Already Paying
Everyone is watching the Strait of Hormuz as a military story. While that story was being told, Iran did something else. It created a government agency. An email address. A permit system. A fee structure. And it started charging ships two million dollars per transit to pass through a waterway that under international law is supposed to be free for every vessel on earth.
The agency is called the Persian Gulf Strait Authority. Its email is info@PGSA.ir. Ships must submit ownership, insurance, crew, and cargo data before being granted a permit. Payment is in Chinese yuan. Some ships have already paid. Iran's parliament is now pursuing legislation to make this permanent. And the deal Trump announced as largely negotiated this weekend contains contradictory language — Trump says no tolls, Iran's IRGC press says the Strait stays under Iranian management. Both cannot be true. And which one is true will define global maritime law for the next generation.
In this video we break down the full picture. What international maritime law actually says about transit rights through international straits and why the PGSA violates every provision of it. The intelligence value of the vessel declaration system — why the IRGC is collecting ownership, cargo, crew, and routing data from every ship applying for a permit. The two-tier Strait emerging — allied nations transiting with IRGC coordination, everyone else running dark. Why the UN, Rubio, Greece, and the Gulf states are all condemning the system while the payments continue. Trump's joint venture comment and what it revealed about the negotiating dynamic. And why if the PGSA survives in any form into the peace deal, the legal precedent changes for the Strait of Malacca, the Bab el-Mandeb, the Turkish Straits, and every strategic maritime chokepoint on the planet.
Iran didn't just close the Strait. It built an institution to own it. And the institution is already operating.
Subscribe and hit the notification bell. The most important sentence in the peace deal is the one that says who controls the Strait the morning after it is signed.
