First up is type 303,  sometimes  shown as 303 S to differentiate it from 303 SE which is the topic for next week. At this time, I want to give you a moment to smash that like button and help out the channel. Ok, thanks for doing that!

303 is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that is considered to be one of the broadly defined "18-8" stainless steels.  The sulfur addition increases the machinability of this grade although some corrosion resistance and welding characteristics are sacrificed.

Where the corrosion performance is adequate, the benefit is in productivity of machined components.

303 can vary in its magnetic response depending on actual chemical composition and any cold work present. It should not be used for critical non-magnetic applications. Strength can be increased by cold work during mill production, but not by heat treatment. The annealed condition provides the best corrosion performance.

This grade of stainless can be known as 303, 303 S, the SAE designation of 30303 and the UNS designation S30300
