Doctors wanted her to stay the night post surgery so they could monitor any bleeding and drainage issues. The elective surgery to have a Bilateral Prophylactic Mastectomy With Reconstruction was a success and now it is a bit of a road to recovery. This woman is a champ though with one of the highest pain tolerances I've seen 💪🏻. Again, we cannot thank UT Medical Center enough for helping get through this event.

After months of doctor appointments and conversations, she decided to take a proactive approach and move forward with a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy with reconstruction. It is not an easy decision, but she hopes by documenting this and talking about it, it can provide insight for other women that may face the same decision.

Each person's situation is unique, and the decision to undergo a mastectomy with the BRCA2 gene mutation involves careful consideration of medical advice, personal values, and individual circumstances. We cannot thank Dr. Lloyd and Dr. Boukovalas, all the nurses, teams and other individuals at UT Medical Center for all of the help along this journey.

Family History: If there is a significant family history of breast cancer, especially in close relatives who also carry the BRCA2 mutation, individuals may opt for a mastectomy to break the cycle of cancer within their family.
Psychological Relief: Constant worry and anxiety about developing breast cancer can take a toll on mental health. Electing for a mastectomy can provide psychological relief, alleviating the fear of cancer and allowing individuals to focus on living their lives fully.
