ASU Online Life Changing Experience

Katrina Hempelman, '22 Master of Science in organizational leadership, graduated from the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts after earning her degree through ASU Online. Hempelman, an Avondale, Arizona, resident, also earned her Bachelor of Arts in organizational leadership through ASU Online. Not only is Hempelman a first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s degree, she will become the first in her family to earn a master’s degree. Hempelman reflects, “To other people in my situation where you may come from a background where college isn't recognized, it's not something that people are proud of, or you might even get knocked down for it.” But for Hempelman that attitude is what gave her more reason to earn her degree. Hempelman adds, “Arizona State University online is part of how I've committed time to myself and my own development. It is something that is for me, it's not something that I do for other people. It really changes who you are when you work on higher education. For me, it changed how I interact with my children, how I interact with my husband and how I work with my colleagues. And it's really developed who I am as a leader.“
