Ardhanareeswara - Bharatanatyam performance by Surabhi Bharadwaj

Ardhanareeshwara - representing Shiva's duality. This piece is choreographed not in a literal sense, but exploring the concept as a quality of Shiva himself and depicting what every human being is born with. As described in yoga, every human has 3 primary nadis or energy channels for the flow of prana or vital energy, namely - Ida, Pingala and Sushumna nadi. Ida is the left channel that starts from muladhara chakra and ends at the left nostril. It carries the feminine energy. Pingala nadi is the right channel that starts from muladhara chakra and ends at the right nostril. It carries the masculine energy. It is important to bring balance between Ida/feminine and Pingala/masculine nadis to lead an effective life. And that is exactly what Ardhanareeshwara represents.
