Vegan Mozzarella Sticks Recipe
Ingredients:
Oil of choice for deep frying.. I like to use either grapeseed or avocado oil
1 package Miyoko's Vegan Mozzarella Cheese Wheel
1/2 cup unsweetened plant-based milk
1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons of flour
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1-2 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
Directions:
With a sharp knife, cut vegan mozzarella block in half long ways, and then into 1/2” strips.
In a mixing bowl, add your plant-based milk, 2 tablespoons of flour, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix together.
To make the vegan Italian bread crumbs, mix 1/2 cup of vegan bread crumbs with about 1 - 2 tablespoons of Italian seasoning in another bowl.
Take another bowl and add some flour to it.
Next, you are going to coat the cheese sticks. To coat the cheese sticks dip your cheese stick in the wet batter, then the flour, then the wet batter again, and then the bread crumbs. Place on a plate that's covered with either parchment or wax paper. After all the cheese sticks are coated, place the cheese sticks in the freezer for about 30 - 45 mins. Doing this will ensure that the breading will not fall off as soon it starts cooking in the hot oil.
After about 30 - 45 minutes...heat up your oil to about 370 degrees. Once the oil is hot enough place your vegan mozzarella sticks in the oil and cook for about 3 - 5 minutes or until golden brown. When the vegan mozzarella sticks are ready, take them out of the oil and place on a paper towel to allow the excess oil to drip off your vegan cheese sticks.
Server with some marinara sauce and ENJOY!!!!
Homemade Marinara Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
5 tomatoes
1 small onion chopped
2 gloves of garlic... I left this out in the video sorry
1 - 2 Tablespoons of tomato paste
salt and pepper to taste
crushed red peppers if you want it spicy
Italian Seasoning to taste
2 teaspoons of oil for cooking the onions and garlic
Directions,
Chop and dice 5 tomatoes and place them to the side.
Next, take 2 teaspoons of oil and add it to a pot or skillet. Add your onions and garlic and cook until onions are soft. Cook with the burner on medium.
Once the onions are soft add your tomatoes.. Stir and then cover and cook on medium - medium high for about 10 - 15 minutes.
Next, add salt, pepper, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and crush red pepper flakes (optional) and stir.. cook for the remaining 5 - 10 minutes uncovered.
