HAM RADIO - ID-5100A + FT-857D + ATAS-120A
I've had ham radio equipment in every car I've owned since 1995. Although I like to pack capability into my small cars, I started with a modest setup in my GTI in an attempt to keep a streamlined look. Eventually, I decided to add my HF ham radio to the mix, which also raised the level of complexity in the 12-volt distribution (link below). I use an Icom ID-5100A for its dual watch and D-STAR capabilities; and I use a Yaesu FT-857D for its compact size and easy antenna tuning via Yaesu's Automatic Tuning Antenna System found their ATAS-120A. Watch the video for more details of the ham radio suite. See a write-up at https://stealthgti.com/communications/.
