2x IBM IC35L146UCDY10-0 spinup/spindown + Maxtor Atlas 10k IV 36gb

These drives are a part of IBM’s UltraStar 146z10 series of server SCSI hard drives. They have 6 platters and 12 heads spinning @ 10,000 rpm on a ball bearing motor. They are the largest size IBM offered.

These drives in particular where made in Singapore by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, and the ones in this video where made on the 23rd of June 2004 and the 22nd of November 2003 respectively. They have pretty good bearings that aren’t too loud as you can hear in the video.

The reason why you can hear a maXtor Atlas 10k IV is so that the drive spins up and initialises, as normally you need a active SCSI controller to get them to turn on, I suppose the maxtor drive fills that requirement and the drive spins up.

Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching :)
