Sissy Spacek Loretta Lynn interviews (Coal Miner's Daughter Special) Brian Linehan's City Lights
In this special on the 1980 film Coal Miner's Daughter, Brian Linehan talks to Loretta Lynn, Sissy Spacek, Beverly D'Angelo, Mooney Lynn, Tommy Lee Jones and director Michael Apted. Loretta Lynn talks about how she knew her story would become a movie, picking Sissy Spacek to play her and working with Sissy on her singing. Sissy Spacek talks about playing Loretta Lynn, her role of Carolyn Cassady in Heart Beat, and performing music in films. Sissy Spacek won the 1980 Academy Award for Best Actress for Coal Miner's Daughter.
Beverly D'Angelo talks about playing Patsy Cline. Mooney Lynn, Loretta's husband, talks about his portrayal in the book and film. Tommy Lee Jones, who plays Mooney in the film, is also interviewed. Director Michael Apted discusses why he was chosen to direct the film and his fresh eye on what he calls "a controversial part of America."

Brian Linehan, who passed away in 2004, left his entire estate to The Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation to provide training, work opportunities and promotion for young actors of exceptional talent. All of the income of his Foundation is donated to not-for-profit institutions for that purpose. In the decade since his death, recipients of the Foundation’s support have included extraordinary young actors affiliated with the Canadian Film Centre, The National Screen Institute of Canada, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, which, since Brian's passing, has preserved and housed Brian's personal archive and tape library.
