December 3rd Music Icons: Ozzy Osbourne, Mickey Thomas & Don Barnes

We’re three for three this December with another powerhouse day of music birthdays. After celebrating Lou Rawls, John Densmore, Gilbert O’Sullivan, Rick Savage, Nelly Furtado, and Britney Spears… December 3rd brings three more giants who helped define rock across multiple generations.

🎤 Ozzy Osbourne (born 1948, Birmingham)
John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne went from dropping out of school at 15 to jail at 17 — and then straight into rock immortality.
In 1968 he joined the band that would become Black Sabbath, unleashing the doom-laden sound that changed heavy music forever.
By the 80s, he launched a legendary solo career with classics like Crazy Train, Flying High Again, and Mama, I’m Coming Home.

🎙️ Mickey Thomas (born 1949, Georgia)
By 16 he was already in bands, and by 1976 he was singing with the Elvin Bishop Band, delivering the smash “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”
In 1979 he joined Jefferson Starship, later Starship, becoming the voice behind some of the era’s biggest hits.

🎸 Don Barnes (born 1952, Jacksonville)
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known for co-founding 38 Special with Donnie Van Zant in 1974.
By ’79, 38 Special exploded with their signature Southern rock-meets-AOR sound — cementing Don Barnes as one of the genre’s defining voices.
