This 40-Year-Old Motel Trick Will Finally Fix Your Lawn (No Fertilizer, No Sprinklers, No Scotts)
Weeds pushing up through your driveway, your patio, the cracks in your front walk? I spent forty years as the maintenance man at a sixty-room Florida motel, and I kept a quarter mile of cracked concrete clean without a single drop of chemical spray. In this video I show you the whole method: how to kill the weeds you've got right now using something already in your kitchen, and how to set things up so they never come back. Real steps, real prices. No Roundup, no salt, no service truck.
Most folks fight weeds the wrong way once a year, with a tank on their back, aiming at the leaves. I'll show you the one thing almost everybody gets wrong, and the cheap, simple fix the weed-killer companies have no reason to tell you about. Boiling water for what's already growing, horticultural vinegar for the stubborn ones, landscape fabric and mulch to stop them for good, and the right way to pull a weed so it doesn't come back in a week. Works on driveway cracks, gravel paths, patios, and flower beds.
What I use in this video:
- A kettle of plain tap water (free)
- Horticultural vinegar, 20-30% acetic acid, for tough weeds (a couple of dollars)
- Landscape / weed-barrier fabric plus staples ($30-50, lasts 10 years)
- Bark or wood-chip mulch ($10-15 a bag)
Chapters:
00:00 The driveway that looked abandoned
01:15 What this costs you (almost nothing)
02:30 The mistake almost everybody makes
03:45 Step one: the kettle on your stove
06:00 Never do this (the salt mistake)
07:30 The strong option: horticultural vinegar
09:15 Stop weeds for good: fabric and gravel
11:30 Flower beds: use mulch instead
13:00 How to pull a weed so it never comes back
15:00 The weed that just won't die
16:45 What the lawn service doesn't want you to know
18:15 Your weekend plan
Want the other forty fixes from my motel years? I put them all in a little book called Earl's Home Repair Manual: https://earlknowshow.com
If an old maintenance man's tricks are worth your time, hit subscribe. And tell me in the comments where you live and the one weed that beats you every summer. I read every one of them.
The folks who kept this country running knew things we're only just starting to remember.
A quick word of caution: horticultural vinegar is strong stuff. Wear gloves and eye protection and keep it away from kids and pets. Everything here is what worked for me over forty years on the job. Use your own good judgment around your home.
