Woman volunteers for 51 years at local hospital

LAKEWOOD - 51 years of volunteering—that's an achievement.

Dorothy Kincade is St. Anthony Hospital’s longest tenured volunteer, starting back in September of 1965.

Throughout her half-century at the hospital, Dorothy has seen every inch of the hospital’s eight floors. She spent most of her time volunteering in the Emergency Department.

“It’s been a wonderful 51 years, I’ll tell you that for sure,” she said. “If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t have stayed this long.”

Those 51 years almost weren't complete. It was hard for her to lose people in the hospital who didn't make it, so she stopped going for a while.

Nurses came to her house, personally asking her to return, and the rest is history.

Dorothy is set to retire this week. Hospital staff helped congratulate Dorothy on her years of service during a gathering on Thursday.
