Leg blood clots: symptoms and diagnosis | Ohio State Medical Center
The most common place outside the heart to have an artery blockage is the legs. Talal Attar, MD, FACC, an interventional cardiologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, says many individuals fail to mention the pain they are feeling in their legs, assuming it is merely due to aging.
However, blockage in the legs often coincides with walking, with the pain occurring with some consistency—after the same distance walked and typically after a similar period of rest. The pain usually does not occur when sitting or lying down.
Dr. Attar explains that the diagnosis, treatment and risk factors for clots in the leg and other locations outside the heart are similar to blockages associated with the heart.
