#9: Get On Up - Watch the Band

In what easily could’ve been another in the long list of high-profile biopics to come out last year, Get On Up separated itself from the rest of pack, boasting a non-linear, stream-of-consciousness story structure and an incredible performance by Chadwick Boseman. However, one of Get On Up’s most memorable and affecting scenes occurs in a flashback as a young James Brown recalls one of the most degrading moments of his life. With some really great sound editing, pretty cool shots, and an awesome horn section, director Tate Taylor showed us just how music got little James to literally get on up, and shows us a kind of version of his life that James Brown probably would’ve been proud to have lived.
