Review: The Zany Schoenberg--Three Orchestral Arrangements

Most music lovers will be familiar with Schoenberg's insane orchestration of Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, but he also created a Cello Concerto based on a keyboard concerto by Georg Matthias Monn (1746), and a Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra after Handel's Concerto grosso Op. 6 No. 7, and they are both equally wacky. Happily, Robert Craft recorded both of them (along with the Brahms piano quartet arrangement) for Naxos in superb performances, available on two easy-to-source discs: Naxos 8.557524 and 8. 557520. Here's a quick guided tour with musical examples.
