This video explains how medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), often referred to as MAT, serve as powerful harm-reduction tools. Harm reduction meets people where they are, helping individuals who use substances stay safer and reduce the risk of fatal overdose until they’re ready to make a change and seek treatment.

With today’s unpredictable illicit drug supply, MOUD/MAT is one of the most effective ways to prevent overdose. These medications provide consistency—so your loved one knows what they’re taking and what to expect.

It’s also important to understand that MOUD/MAT is not “trading one drug for another.” MOUD is a medically supervised treatment that requires a prescription from a physician.
