Fats Domino - (Dave Bartholomew session) - Short Subjects (instr.) - February 20, 1957
Recorded February 20, 1957 (Wednesday)
(w&m: Dave Bartholomew/Pearl King [Dave's wife])
Fats 1st recording from his 41th session (IM-1251).
b-side of "Button Holes"on Imperial 5560.
45RPM release: December 1958.
First album release: "Jump Children!/Imperial Singles Plus 1950-1962"
Released: 2017
Cosimo Recording Studio, 523-525 Gov. Nicholls St., New Orleans, LA
There is some dispute whether Fats actually played on this one.
Blues & Rhythm Magazine (No. 220) lists this recording on the same date as above with:
Antoine Domino(p), Dave Bartholomew(tp), Waldron "Frog" Joseph(tb), Lee Allen, Herbert Hardesty(ts), Ernest McClean(g), Frank Fields(b), Cornelius "Tenoo" Coleman(d).
Producer/Arranger: Dave Bartholomew
Engineer: Cosimo Matassa
Blues Records by McGrath and Fancourt and Aladdin/Imperial Files by Ruplli date the recording at January 25, 1957 (with NO FATS!):
Dave Bartholomew(tp), Clarence Hall, Herb Hardesty, Lee Allen(ts), EDWARD FRANK(p), Justin Adams(g), Frank Fields(b), Charles "Hungry" Williams(d).
Personally I do not think Fats played on this one. The sound of the two songs recorded as a Bartholomew-session sound very different as the three songs Fats recorded that day.
On the other hand: If he did record it with Dave on January 25, 1957, most bandmembers recorded 9(!) songs that day (including a Smiley Lewis session). To me, that seems awkward. So it remains guessing.
For the sake of completeness this session is added to the Fats-session.
