Jewish Voices of Monroe County: Kurt Wimer

Rabbi and educator Dr. Kurt Wimer fled Nazi Germany in 1938, arriving in East Stroudsburg by way of New York. A graduate of the Wurzburg Theological Seminary, he previously served as a Rabbi and Cantor in Worms. Upon settling in Pennsylvania, he became an important fixture in the community serving the spiritual and educational needs of the growing Jewish population through the 1930s-40s. Dr. Wimer later left the rabbinate for a long career as a Professor of Social Studies at East Stroudsburg University.

In conversation with Art Glantz, Kurt shares his fascinating story and his involvement in the Jewish community of the Stroudsburgs.
