Attorney General of India :
The Attorney General of India is the highest law officer in the country. Appointed by the President of India under Article 76 of the Constitution, the Attorney General advises the Government of India on legal matters and represents it in the Supreme Court and other courts.

Key Features:

1. Must be qualified to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.

2. Holds office at the pleasure of the President (no fixed term).

3. Can participate in the proceedings of Parliament (without the right to vote).

4. Not a government servant; can take private legal practice (with restrictions).

5. Assists the President, Union Government, and other authorities when required.

Advocate General of the States
The Advocate General is the highest law officer in a state, appointed by the Governor of the State under Article 165 of the Constitution. The Advocate General advises the state government on legal matters and represents it in the High Court and other courts.

Key Features:

Must be qualified to be appointed as a judge of a High Court.

Holds office during the pleasure of the Governor (no fixed term).

Can participate in the proceedings of the State Legislature (without voting rights).

Not a government servant; can practice privately subject to conditions.

Performs similar functions for the state government as the Attorney General does for the central government.
