Muscle Car ROYALTY: 1965 Chevelle Z16 (one of only 201 produced)

This is the most ICONIC muscle cars that Chevrolet ever produced. There are a handful of cars that really set the precedent for the muscle car wars of the late 1960's and early 1970's. One of the most influential from the Chevy camp was the 1965 Chevelle Z16. Only 201 of these iconic muscle cars were produced, and the Z16 was more than just stuffing a Corvette big block engine in Chevrolet's mid-size sedan.

The Z16 had a special engine, the L37, which was similar to the 396ci big block found in a Corvette, except it had a hydraulic-lift camshaft. In addition to the big block engine, the Z16 got a reinforced frame, larger brakes, 160 mph speedometer and lots of other great features that make the cars truly unique.

This Crocus Yellow example is owned by Rick Treworgy, and it is going to auction this weekend. The car (as well as the ENTIRE collection at his Muscle Car City museum) are up for grabs at no reserve, thanks to a partnership with Mecum Auctions. Stay tuned for more!
