Texas Eagle #22 & a UP Derailment - Taylor, TX

This video shows the arrival of Texas Eagle #22 into Taylor, TX (About 35 miles northeast of Austin) following a UP derailment near the Amtrak Depot. The thing is, those derailed cars were right in the path of the train.

The first shot shows the train coming up on the "Freight Lead", which acts as a manual crossover between the main and the siding. This move was necessary because there was a train in the siding and the derailment put the main Out of Service (OOS). The train snaked between the stopped freight and the derailed cars. However, the train had to come to a stop in order for the dispatcher to flag them by the signal at CP Q145.

The next shot is facing the opposite direction of the first shot. The UP Yard Office and Taylor Amtrak Station are to the left, as well as the derailed cars (Which are in the distance). It's a little hard to hear, but the dispatcher then gives the train authority to pass the signal displaying a Stop Indication (All Red) and the train then begins to move again. During this move, the conductor can be heard talking to the engineer and letting him know where to stop.

Meanwhile, UP employees were all over the area due to the derailment, and they also escorted the Amtrak passengers across the main and over to their train since the train ended up having to stop across from the station.

Next, the video shows a sequence of pictures of the derailed cars, which were four empty hoppers. The cars were UP 41104, UP 45593, CTRN 77, & MP 582000.

The derailed cars were blocking the NW Connector that the Eagle normally uses to head north for its next stop of Temple, TX, so the train had to use the only other available connection track between the Austin & Waco Subdivisions, which is the SW Connector. This meant the Eagle would have to run backwards for its run up towards Temple & Fort Worth. UP provided a locomotive, UP 4439, to pull the train from the rear and let it run at speed, but in the end the delays put the train more than 5 hours behind schedule.
