A bomb blast struck a shuttle train carrying Pakistani security personnel and their families in Balochistan province on Sunday, killing at least 24 people and injuring around 70 others, officials said.

According to provincial government and security officials, the explosion targeted a train traveling from Quetta’s cantonment area to connect with the Jaffar Express long-distance service. The blast occurred near a railway track in the provincial capital.

The separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a suicide bombing, although independent verification of the claim has not yet been confirmed.

The incident marks the latest in a series of militant attacks targeting trains, security forces, and infrastructure in the mineral-rich province bordering Iran and Afghanistan, where Pakistani authorities have intensified counterinsurgency operations amid rising violence.
