Structure and Function of Brain (in Hindi)
In this Biology video in Hindi for Class 10 and Class 11 we explained the structure and function of human brain. This is a topic from the chapter - 'Control and Coordination' of Biology from NCERT.
Brain is the central part of our nervous system which recieves information about surroundings via sensory neurons, it then processes those information and finally acts accordingly through motor neurons.
Brain is situated inside the skull and above the spinal cord. It is protected inside meninges and ceribrospinal fluid. On an average its mass is 1.2 kg to 1.4 kg. It has nearly 100 billion neurons.
Seeing from top we can differentiate our brain in two sections, viz., left cerebral hemisphere and right cerebral hemisphere. Every hemisphere can be divided into 4 lobes, viz., frontal lobe, temporal lobe, parietal lobe and occipital lobe.
Frontal lobe performs skeletal movement, speech control, reasoning, numeracy etc.
Temporal lobe performs auditory perception, object recognition etc.
Parietal lobe performs integration of sensory information, sense of touch etc.
Occipital lobe performs motion perception, visuospatial processing, color differentiation etc.
Sagittal section of human brain can be divided into three parts, viz., forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain.
The largest part of forebrain is the cerebrum which performs skeletal movement, speech control, reasoning, numeracy, perception creation, object recognition, motion perception, visuospatial processing, color differentiation etc.
Forebrain also contains thalamus, hypothalamus, subthalamus. Thalamus controls sleep and alertness. Hypothalamus regulates body temperature, hunger and thirst. It connects nervous system with endocrine system via pituitary gland.
Midbrain controls our motivation via regulating the hormone dopamine.
The hindbrain mostly performs the autonomous functions of our body. It can be divided into three sections, viz., pons, medulla and cerebellum.
Pons controls respiration, swallowing, urinary bladder, facial expression,
Medulla controls vomiting, coughing, sneezing.
Cerebellum controls emotional expression, attention and coordination of different body parts for motion.
