World's Only Jet-Powered Albatross

This is the first official flight of the RCG1. It is my own creation from scratch and has been over 6 months in the design, waiting for parts, construction, alpha and beta testing, and waiting for the right weather and conditions. It was a real pleasure to see it grow from just an idea into a fully-fledged model, and finally release it into the sky to fly on its own with the other birds in its natural environment.

The RCG1 'Albaturkey' is a flying jet-powered albatross model I designed to be able to soar with the real albatross here in Dunedin. It is home-made from foam-board and has an internally mounted 520W EDF (electric jet) engine, and a 6-cell lithium polymer battery pack. It is configured as a glider with large flapperons (to control lift) and a separate airbrake if needed for landing. Has a V-tail with elevator and rudder mixed 100/100. Flown with a FS-T6 computer controller, with ailerons mixed in with rudder 100/50 respectively - as dihedral angle means ailerons aren't as effective as the rudder for turning. Wingspan is 2m exactly. Wings clip off and fold up for transport.
