German Shepherd With Black Spots on Tongue: Normal or Not?

Full Article: https://www.anythinggermanshepherd.com/why-do-german-shepherds-have-a-black-spot-on-their-tongue/
In this video, we’ll explain why certain German Shepherds have a black spot on their tongue, what it means, and if you need to worry about it.

What Causes Black Spots on a German Shepherd’s Tongue?

All dogs have two types of pigment in their DNA: eumelanin and phaeomelanin.

Eumelanin produces the basic black pigment color, and can be altered by interactions with other genes that can lighten the color to gray, blue, liver, or blue-grey.

Unlike phaeomelanin, which controls coat color, eumelanin can also influence eye, nose, skin, and tongue color.
