Playwright MCP Server - Is This The End of Selenium?

This video demostrates the possibility of executing a simple test in Claude using Playwright MCP (a Model Context Protocol server that provides browser automation capabilities using Playwright) and Selenium WebDriver version 4.35.0.

Key Features of My Automation Framework:
Test Framework: Built on .NET 8 with C# 12.0

Testing Tools:

NUnit 3.14.0 for test framework
Selenium WebDriver 4.35.0 for web automation
Chrome WebDriver for browser automation

If you have Selenium WebDriver set up and running locally, you can simply copy and paste the above code snippet and execute it via the Test Explorer or Command Prompt (CMD).

The test executions clearly demonstrate, Selenium is 83.76% faster than Playwright MCP + Claude, which makes Selenium still unbeatable. Although I see a lot of promise in MCP server, there is still room for improvement, and I’m excited to see how it will unfold.
