Inktense the hidden truth. Inktense claims finally tested.

In this video I review the Derwent Inktense pencils and the Inktense blocks. These are water soluble pencils and blocks. They are unique because they are ink and not watercolor. In theory these lay down and once wet and they dissolve they are supposed to be permanent. In theory. And they are a little. They layer wonderfully and dissolve wonderfully. They are in fact great for layering however they can be lifted. For the price they are, in fact, wonderfully vibrant and the best at layering. However, they aren't the only watersoluble media that will layer. The Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer also layer really well and have more colors that are much more light fast.

In the end I think its a disservice to say these are the only watersoluble pencils that will layer. The real benefit with the Inktense pencils and blocks is the wonderful vibrancy that is unmatched at this price point as well as the ability for them to be used so well in multimedia projects.

I've used them and they don't lift for me? A: My point isn't that it ALWAYS lift but rather that it CAN lift.

You just hate Derwent!
A: Incorrect. I really enjoyed these pencils. But that doesn’t mean they perfect.

Use lighter layers to keep layers from lifting.
A: The claim is not that they don't lift with light layers but that they don't lift PERIOD .

You need to dissolve the pigment completely to maintain the color.
A: That's why I used the inktense blocks to ensure that the pigment was completely dissolved.

Try high quality paper:
A- I use 100% cotton, 140 pound, cold press, artist grade watercolor paper in ALL my reviews.
Well you have to do this, that, and the other to make sure they don’t lift. A- My job is not to contort myself in order to prove claims true but rather to test if the claims AS WRITTEN are true. If there is a special potion I need to use in order to get the effects Derwent promised, that needs to be included in the printed materials.

I like inktense and I’m personally offended by unkind words about them:
A- It is important to remember not to take these things personally. I quite like the Inktense and think they are a fun highly staining medium. My job isn’t to repeat the claims made by companies but rather to give my fans an HONEST and well tested review. Sometimes this means that some claims made by companies are refuted. And that’s ok, life goes on.

I’m still mad and I’m unsubbing!
A- Well thats ok! It’s not always easy to be honest about products that people have emotional attachments to and sometimes there is backlash but I think that most people will appreciate the testing and honesty that I bring to my reviews!
