My First Oklahoma Supercell (Aug 31, 2020 in Norman)

After living in CT and FL, this was my first experience with a midwestern-style severe weather outbreak while attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman. There were no tornado warnings as the outflow boundary was slightly ahead of the main updraft, but the storm brought flash flooding, 50-60 mph winds, and dime-sized hail to the OU Campus. Luckily for my car, the damaging hail (greater than quarter-sized) missed me by a few miles.

Upon chasing the cell a few miles south and east, I captured a rotating wall cloud near Etowah, despite losing cell service and access to radar data. I didn't know the cloud was rotating until speeding it up in post…

Storms trained over campus through early evening before drifting away under mostly clear skies, making for a beautiful lightning show alongside the nearly-full moon.
