Singapore Cinema’s Renaissance | BBC Talking Movies 2013 | Kenneth Paul Tan

In this short clip from a 2013 BBC Talking Movies special on Singapore, I discuss what many at the time described as a ‘renaissance’ in Singapore cinema. The conversation touches on the so-called golden age of local film, a younger generation of filmmakers preoccupied with history and loss, and the distinctive conservatism of Jack Neo’s cinema.

The programme explored how Singapore filmmaking was evolving alongside broader social, political, and cultural transformations in the city-state.

Originally broadcast on BBC Talking Movies in 2013.
