IRANIAN LANGUAGES: Persian (Farsi, Dari, Tajik) Kurdish (Kurmanji) Pashto & Ossetian

The sound and some of the transliterations are pretty inconsistent. I tried my best :) Also, this has nothing to do with religion and faith! For language comparison only. If there were mistakes made here, please let me know! :)

Special Thanks to Ahmad Fares for helping me transliterate the Pashto text!

IRANIAN LANGUAGES
are a branch of the Indo-Iranian languages in the Indo-European language family. The speakers of Iranian languages are known as Iranian peoples.

Historical Iranian languages are grouped in three stages: Old Iranian (until 400 BC), Middle Iranian (400 BC – 900 AD) and New Iranian (since 900 AD). Of the Old Iranian languages, the better understood and recorded ones are Old Persian (a language of Achaemenid Iran) and Avestan (the language of the Avesta). Middle Iranian languages included Middle Persian (a language of Sassanid Iran), Parthian and Bactrian.

PERSIAN is one of the Western Iranian languages within the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. It is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan (officially known as Dari since 1958), and Tajikistan (officially known as Tajiki since the Soviet era), and some other regions which historically were Persianate societies and considered part of Greater Iran. It is written in the Persian alphabet, a modified variant of the Arabic script, which itself evolved from the Aramaic alphabet.

KURDISH is a continuum of Northwestern Iranian languages spoken by the Kurds in Western Asia. Kurdish forms three dialect groups known as Northern Kurdish (Kurmanji), Central Kurdish (Sorani), and Southern Kurdish (Palewani). A separate group of non-Kurdish Northwestern Iranian languages, the Zaza–Gorani languages, are also spoken by several million Kurds.

PASHTO is the language of the Pashtuns. It is known in Persian literature as Afghāni (افغانی) and in Urdu and Hindi literature as Paṭhānī. Speakers of the language are called Pashtuns or Pakhtuns and sometimes Afghans or Pathans. It is an Eastern Iranian language, belonging to the Indo-European family.

OSSETIAN is an Eastern Iranian language spoken in Ossetia, a region on the northern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. It is a direct descendant of the Scythian, Sarmatian, and Alanic languages.
