Preparing an IG Video: Mozart 41 | Joseph Conyers, Double Bass

Nicknamed “Jupiter,” Mozart’s 41st symphony was his last. Most notable in this symphony is the 5-voice invertible counterpoint (fugato) in the fourth movement, which in my opinion is one of the great achievements of humankind.

Like my last Mozart excerpt, Symphony 25, this excerpt offers plenty of opportunities to talk about style and phrasing. Since these themes are in counterpoint with one another, it is crucial to know what is happening in the score and what the other instruments are playing. I always say music is either coming or going somewhere and you can always find a gesture.
