How to Use Google Pay in a Store (Easy Tutorial)

You can easily use Google Wallet to pay with your phone by enabling NFC, adding a payment card, and simply tapping your phone at contactless payment terminals or using it in apps that support Google Pay

Step 1 — Check Requirements
Phone: Android device with NFC (Near Field Communication).
Operating System: Android 7.0 Nougat or higher is recommended.
Security: Set up a secure screen lock (PIN, pattern, or biometric).

Account: Active Google account signed in on your phone.
Payment Card: Debit, credit, or prepaid card supported by Google Wallet

Step 2 — Install and Set Up Google Wallet
Download Google Wallet from the Play Store if it isn’t pre-installed

Open the app and sign in with your Google account

Set up a screen lock if prompted.
Tap Add to Wallet and choose Payment card. You can scan the card with your camera or enter the details manually

Follow the on-screen instructions for verification (SMS, email, or banking app). Once verified, your card is ready for contactless payments

Step 3 — Set Google Wallet as Default Payment App
Go to Settings Connected devices NFC and ensure NFC is switched on.
Confirm that Google Wallet is set as the default tap-to-pay app

Step 4 — Make Payments in Physical Stores
Unlock your phone using your security method

Hold the back of your phone close to the contactless terminal (look for the contactless or Google Pay symbol) for a few seconds

Wait for the confirmation: a blue check mark will appear on your screen, indicating a successful payment

For some devices (e.g., Pixel 8 or newer), you can open Google Wallet with a double press of the power button for faster access
