All eyes and ears are on American Salvage, the new band from Scott Underwood and Charlie Colin - multiple Grammy winners and co founders of the multi Platinum and iconic band TRAIN. Joining them as vocalist is the über-talented Danny Beissel, originally from Philadelphia, who has fronted the stage for a menagerie of rock legends including members of the Doobie Brothers, Boston, and Steely Dan.
American Salvage’s story began during a breakfast in Laguna Beach, when Underwood pitched to his mutual friends Colin and Beissel the concept of creating a no-strings-attached band, where the pressures to sell records or fill stadiums was verboten. They’d cover their favorite hit songs from various decades peppered with their growing number of originals. Scott's vision ignited between them and the stars literally aligned. Underwood christened them American Salvage, a name that tips its cap to the three artists being "survivors" of multiple nationally renowned acts. Whether they’re covering songs or performing their own, the three primary members of American Salvage know how to mine success in the music business.
After his departure from TRAIN, Underwood opened Thunderwood Sound studios in Nashville, and spent time producing and playing on many records for the large pool of talented artists in the Music City. One of those artists was Beissel, who Colin introduced to Underwood. Colin and Beissel wrote an excellent collection of songs and asked Underwood to produce and play on the album. The trio found an undeniable chemistry in their collaboration and after finishing this debut, titled Featherborn, were determined to share future opportunities and projects.
With their lives aligning now, American Salvage is created. Not to be outdone, Colin, after departing TRAIN, has performed with a panoply of bands in the ensuing years, including Painbirds, Days of the New, and The Side Deal. Colin has also served for many years as the music director of the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Rounding out the band are guitarist Spencer Askin, who’ll also be lending backing vocals, and keyboardist/saxophonist Spencer Wiles. Askin and Wiles are two of LA's most in demand session musicians from the acclaimed indie rock band, The Gromble. So what should you expect at an upcoming American Salvage show? As Colin puts it: “Love, friendship, music, fun, adventure…why not? We’ve been looking at this as a project where we can use all our talents…and do something other people can’t do.” Underwood adds, “We want to have a good time showing people a great time. It's as simple as that!”
