Hazard perception, anticipation

What is a hazard? anything that makes you slow swerve or stop!

We encounter many hazards throughout our daily drive from pedestrians, cyclists, horses, motorbikes, cars, vans, trucks etc also crossings and narrow roads.

Knowing how to deal with them all is equally important but if you can learn to look to your limit point then this is a good start.

Your limit point is the furthest distance you can see, then if you scan to the middle distance then close to your car then back to the limit point again and keep going like that looking for potential hazards and try to see if when you see a hazard if possible try
to adjust your speed without touching the brakes.

Basically, whenever you see a hazard the first thing you should do is check your centre mirror and release the gas pedal to help slow the car and assess what is happening.

Obviously if something is happening close to you then using your brakes may be the correct thing to do.

Just coming off your gas pedal and not using your brakes is better environmentally (no brake dust) and better economically (not replacing brakes too often) and will increase your fuel consumption.

practice makes perfect.

look to your limit point and keep scanning the road for potential hazards and try to see if you can do so without using your brakes.
