The British military's 12 months fighting COVID-19 | COVID Support Force

In March 2020, the UK went into lockdown as the COVID-19 virus began to spread around the country. To support the UK's response to the pandemic, the COVID Support Force was established.

Led by Standing Joint Commander, Lieutenant General Tyrone Urch (00:09), the COVID Support Force has been on hand to help support the government in a range of activities; military planners, delivering PPE, combat medics embedded in the NHS and building hospitals.

As the UK looks forward to getting back to normality, the announcement of the government's COVID-19 vaccination programme has given people hope. In January 2021, Brigadier Phil Prosser, Commander of Military Support to the Vaccine Delivery Programme (02:15) outlined the UK Armed Forces role in assisting in the delivery of vaccines.

Over the last year, our Armed Forces have responded to over 200 MACA requests to tackle the UK’s COVID-19 outbreak, from carrying out testing to driving ambulances and administering vaccines.
