Are you being overcharged to open your pool? Actually, it doesn't matter. Because I'm here to show you how to do it yourself and save some easy money this year.

Ok...

First, you can remove the winter cover yourself. Pool companies charge just to take off your cover, clean it, and fold it up. But all you need is a leaf net, garden hose, and one other person to help you fold it. Easy.

Next, you can skip paying someone to remove your winter plugs and restart your system. Just remember: remove the plugs, prime your pump, and let it run. That's it. There's nothing special you need to do here, and it doesn't require any expert help. The only thing you may have to do is prime the pump and filter if there's air trapped in the lines, but we have plenty of videos about that.

And finally, you don't need any "special" opening chemicals. You can test your own water with an accurate digital tester for less than what they charge for one test. Or just use some test strips or a liquid test kit (if you want to nerd out with more accuracy).

All you need to do is balance your pH, Alkalinity, and Calcium hardness levels. Shock the pool, and add your normal sanitizer like chlorine, bromine, or salt.
