US Inflation Holds at 2.7% in December, Sees a Consolidation in 2025

United States inflation remained at 2.7% in December 2025 on an annual basis, in line with market expectations. This data was released by the US Department of Labor in its final Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for 2025.

The report concludes the inflation trajectory throughout 2025, which showed a downward trend, although it remained uneven across all economic sectors. Inflation briefly touched 3% in September before falling back to 2.7% in November, where it remained until the end of the year.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.3% from November to December. This increase was primarily driven by rising housing and food costs. Housing prices rose 0.4%, while food prices jumped 0.7% over the month.

Energy prices also rose 0.3% in December, after experiencing downward pressure. Meanwhile, slowing gasoline and new vehicle prices were among the factors holding back annual inflation.
